Founded as Black River Vocational Technical School in 1972, the school is now a public, two-year college with an open admissions policy that is committed to meeting the technical, academic, professional, cultural, and personal enrichment needs of the citizens of Northeast Arkansas and the surrounding areas. The college was renamed Black River Technical College in 1991 and is governed by a Board of Trustees.Black River Technical College is an institution of higher learning committed to a partnership with the individual and the global community to provide lifelong learning experiences, seeking always to empower those it serves to achieve their academic, vocational, and personal development goals.BRTC faculty share a devotion to their diverse disciplines and programs and a commitment to the intellectual, technical, and professional growth of their students. The typically smaller student-faculty ratio permits students to have a productive learning relationship with their instructors.The main campus of Black River Technical College (BRTC) is located on Highway 304 East in Historic Pocahontas, Arkansas, which has a population of about 7,000. The Aviation Maintenance Technician facility is located on Highway 67 South at the Pocahontas Municipal Airport; and the Fire Science facility is in the Industrial Park at College City. The Greene County Industrial Training Center is situated in North Industrial Park in Paragould.
